Harvey & Beth Hicks decided to move back to Morganton after Harvey retired from the Army in 2016. They soon decided they wanted to open a business in Downtown Morganton, but, what kind of business should it be? They did some research, spoke with some community leaders, and mulled it over for just a short time before they decided to open a “general store”. It was what the community wanted, what Downtown Morganton needed, and what really inspired them!
Voila, Morganton General Store was born!
Then, a year later they decided to open a café on the store’s mezzanine level. Coffee creations and original breakfast and lunch selections would be served, but what should they name the new casual eatery?! They concluded that they should name it after Harvey’s father, whose nickname was Swede.
So, Swede's Café it became!
Yeah, it's an unusual name,...but so was Swede!
